Hong Kong retailer holds pet Olympics
By Mary Clarke
PetMax, a pet shop in Hong Kong, China, is holding its own sporting event to rival the Olympic Games, which kicked off in Beijing at the weekend, as reported by AFP. The Olympets is designed to promote sport for animals in the city, where space to exercise pets is limited.

PetMax owner Howard Cheung told AFP: "Pets need to exercise and they don't have much space in Hong Kong. So we are trying to promote exercise and stimulate owners to exercise their pets."
The Olympets will run for 10 weeks at the city-centre store, with pet’s competing for medals in events such as rabbit hurdles, parrot rope-climbing and cat agility contests. So far, 400 pets have taken part in the games. Specially made pet-sized medals will be given to winners at the end of the month.
