Humming Birds Head South
Friend of Natures Corner Magazine Nan-c writes:
Well all, seems the hummers have left us here in the North east for the winter....so sad as I will miss my little buddies flitting around the feeders and me!
I find if you wear a red shirt when cleaning and replacing the feeders with fresh sugar water, they will follow you or sit on a telephone line or tree branch to wait for you to come back outside!
But this season up here for us is now over and the Hummers have flown back to their "Summer Grounds" which is way down south.
Tomorrow I will remove and clean the feeders here and store them away till next spring. Around May 1st they once again will show up like magic...bringing with them their wee bag of tricks that will catch the eye and hearts of humans, snaring them and teasing them into becoming slaves to their every request for favorite food to sip from feeders and favorite flowers to be planted!
Next spring we will follow their path as they migrate back North. For those that are interested, here is a link to this years Northen Migration trip and the dates they were spotted. It is very interesting! Enjoy, you might see where you live!
Have a safe winter, and may each of you receive a wonderful Humming Bird Feeder for the Holidays to put out for enjoyment next spring.

IS IT TRUE THAT YOU ARE TO STOP FEEDING A CERTAIN DATE SO HUMMING BIRDS DON'T OVER STAY IN COLD WEATHER

I have been told and have spotted a different varity of bird (hummer). It only showed up once for about 20 sec. It had a fluffy yellow marking down each side, just under the wing. Similer to the broad tail which is only found in the south west. Any Info???
