Gorillas use tools in the wild!

Friend of Nature's Corner Magazine , Maria writes:

"Recently, Wildlife Conservation Society(WCS) scientists studying gorillas in the Congo discovered wild individuals using tools for the first time! Although gorillas have been observed using tools in captivity, this is the first evidence of tool use in the wild. Many different animal species have been found to use tools to collect food and solve every day problems. The list includes: chimps, crows, elephants, African Greys, and more. Click on the following link www.wcs.org to read about the types of tools the gorillas were using, and look for more information on the invention and use of tools by animals in the second issue of Nature's Corner Magazine.

Wow! That's exciting! Tool use was such an important criterion for judging consciousness and intelligence. Now, it has been observed in SO many different animal species. It just shows us how much more we have to learn about our wildlife brothers and sisters. Awesome!
